Structured Claude Code Workflow for Building Full-Stack Apps

This is a developer workflow for using Claude Code to build applications more efficiently. It establishes a repeatable process that gives the AI long-term memory of a project's architecture and automates routine coding tasks, enabling faster development from idea to a finished product.

# Set Up Workflow: Structured Claude Code Workflow for Building Full-Stack Apps

## What This Is
This is a developer workflow for using Claude Code to build applications more efficiently. It establishes a repeatable process that gives the AI long-term memory of a project's architecture and automates routine coding tasks, enabling faster development from idea to a finished product.

## Before You Start

Scan my workspace and analyze:
- The project language, framework, and directory structure
- Existing AI provider config (check .env, .env.local, config files for API keys — OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI, etc.)

Then ask me before proceeding:
1. Which AI provider/API should this use? (Use whatever I already have configured, or ask me to set one up — options include direct provider APIs or a unified service like OpenRouter)
2. Where in my project should this be integrated?
3. Are there any customizations I need (model preferences, naming conventions, constraints)?

## Source Access Note

## What to Implement

This is an **AI Workflow** — an end-to-end automation pattern or integration pipeline.

- Study the workflow architecture from the source and context below
- Identify which parts I can implement locally vs. parts that need external services
- For local parts: implement them using my existing stack and API keys
- For external parts: tell me exactly what services I need and help me configure the integration code
- Wire up any required API calls using keys from my .env files

## Additional Context

- Analyze the current project's architecture, dependencies, and coding standards, then create a `CLAUDE.md` file in the root directory to establish long-term context for all subsequent interactions.
- Create the `.claude/commands/` directory and populate it with reusable prompt templates for common tasks like `/new-component`, `/code-review`, or `/api-endpoint`, based on an analysis of the user's project needs.
- Activate 'Plan Mode' and, acting as a 'Senior Architect', analyze the codebase and the user's high-level goal. Generate a detailed, step-by-step implementation plan including required dependencies and file structures before writing any code.

## Reference Implementation

```
I subscribe to way too many information sources. Here are the URLs: [paste URLs]. Build me a digest app that fetches new content, summarizes in 2-3 sentences, groups by topic, stores seen items, and generates a clean newsletter page.
```

## Guidelines

- Adapt everything to my existing project — do not assume a specific stack or directory layout
- Use whichever AI provider I already have configured; if I need a new one, tell me what to sign up for and I'll give you the key
- Check my .env files for existing API keys (OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI) before asking me to add one
- Review any fetched code for safety before installing or executing it
- After setup, run a quick verification and show me a summary of exactly what was installed, where, and how to use it

MANUAL SETUP STEPS
  1. 01Analyze the current project's architecture, dependencies, and coding standards, then create a `CLAUDE.md` file in the root directory to establish long-term context for all subsequent interactions.
  2. 02Create the `.claude/commands/` directory and populate it with reusable prompt templates for common tasks like `/new-component`, `/code-review`, or `/api-endpoint`, based on an analysis of the user's project needs.
  3. 03Activate 'Plan Mode' and, acting as a 'Senior Architect', analyze the codebase and the user's high-level goal. Generate a detailed, step-by-step implementation plan including required dependencies and file structures before writing any code.

CODE INTELLIGENCE

bash
I subscribe to way too many information sources. Here are the URLs: [paste URLs]. Build me a digest app that fetches new content, summarizes in 2-3 sentences, groups by topic, stores seen items, and generates a clean newsletter page.

FIELD OPERATIONS

Personalized Content Digest App

An application that scrapes specified RSS feeds or URLs, uses an AI model to summarize new content, stores seen items in a local database (like SQLite), and generates a static HTML page as a daily newsletter.

Community Analytics Dashboard

A tool that integrates with a platform's API (e.g., Discord, X) using MCP plugins, fetches community engagement data, analyzes trends, and displays key metrics on a web dashboard.

STRATEGIC APPLICATIONS

  • →Rapid Prototyping: Use the structured workflow to quickly build and iterate on a minimum viable product (MVP) for a new SaaS application, using the CLAUDE.md file to maintain consistency as different developers or AI sessions contribute to the codebase.
  • →Automating Internal Tooling: Implement custom slash commands to automate the creation of boilerplate code for internal tools, such as generating API endpoints, database migration scripts, or frontend components that adhere to company-specific design systems.
